GAYLESVILLE– An 18-wheeler hauling potatoes overturned on Alabama Highway 35 near County Road 141 late Friday morning. The driver and a small dog riding in the truck escaped without injuries.
The truck appeared to run off the shoulder before overturning. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
Broom Town Rhineheart Fire, the Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency, and Alabama State Troopers responded to the scene.
Initial reports described fluid leaking from the truck. However, officials identified the fluid as DEF, or diesel exhaust fluid. EMA also confirmed there were no hazardous leaks.
Meanwhile, officials directed traffic around the scene. Although the truck was off the roadway, traffic slowed through the area.
