RAINBOW CITY– Administrators at John S. Jones Elementary School handled a student bringing a BB gun to campus Wednesday without incident. School officials also reported no indication of intent to harm others.

Superintendent Julie Talton and Principal Jenny Ryals notified families in a letter released Wednesday evening, October 21.

According to the letter, administrators followed appropriate safety procedures after learning about the BB gun. They then addressed the situation under school system policies and communicated with the student’s family.

The letter also encouraged parents to discuss safe and appropriate choices at school with their children. In addition, officials urged students to report concerning items or behavior to a trusted adult immediately.

“The safety of our students and staff is always our highest priority,” Talton and Ryals wrote.
