WHORTON– A cotton picker fire at Jennings Farm prompted two dispatches Tuesday morning after the blaze rekindled. When firefighters responded, they reported a tire had flared back up.
McCord’s Crossroads Fire Department first received the call shortly after 3:30 a.m. October 20. The fire was in the old Jennings Farm area off County Road 162.
A nearby homeowner had awakened to the blaze behind her house. Firefighters then extinguished the fire during the initial response.
Crews also prevented the flames from spreading to other nearby cotton modules and equipment. The initial report listed no injuries.
However, the fire later rekindled, prompting another dispatch to the same location at 6:25 a.m.
The cause was not immediately known and remains under investigation.
