CENTRE– Kerr’s Redi Mix, Inc. has established an endowed scholarship to support eligible Cherokee County students at Gadsden State Community College. The Gadsden State Cardinal Foundation announced the scholarship, which supports four career fields.
Students pursuing Construction Technology, Education, Commercial Driver’s License training, and Automotive Technology can benefit from the fund. In addition, the endowment aims to provide continuing assistance for future generations of students.
Doyle Kerr, founder and owner of Kerr’s Redi Mix, said the company has served Cherokee County and surrounding communities for 50 years. He also described the scholarship as a way to give back to those who have supported the business.
“We are proud to invest in students from Cherokee County and encourage them as they prepare for meaningful careers,” Kerr said.
Supporting Education and Workforce Training
Unlike a one-time contribution, an endowed scholarship is designed to provide ongoing student support. As a result, the fund creates a lasting investment in education and workforce training at Gadsden State Community College.
The foundation said the scholarship will help reduce financial barriers for students pursuing education and training close to home. It also extends the company’s longstanding involvement in the region’s construction industry into support for future professionals.
Tony Smith, president of the Cardinal Foundation, said the partnership can benefit both students and the communities they serve. He pointed to the need for construction professionals, educators, commercial drivers, and automotive technicians.
Smith also praised Kerr’s commitment to the region and the long-term impact of the family-owned business. Through the scholarship, he said, that investment will continue by helping students build careers of their own.
Meanwhile, the Cardinal Foundation works with individuals, businesses, and community partners to create scholarships and other educational opportunities. Its work helps students complete their education and prepare for careers.
