MONTGOMERY– Gov. Kay Ivey has extended the Hurricane Isaias state of emergency through 11:59 p.m. CDT Wednesday, October 28.

Ivey signed the fourth supplemental proclamation on October 14. The order continues emergency measures to support recovery in Alabama communities where the storm’s effects persist.

Ivey first declared the emergency October 7 because of the threat from Tropical Storm Isaias. Isaias later strengthened into Hurricane Isaias and affected communities across Alabama, according to the proclamation.

Earlier Emergency Provisions Remain in Effect

The new proclamation supplements the October 7 declaration and an October 9 supplemental proclamation. It also preserves provisions of those proclamations, including amendments and supplements, for the duration of the emergency.

In addition, subsequent orders, laws, rules, and regulations issued under those proclamations remain in effect. However, a later proclamation can rescind or modify those provisions.

The order also addresses conflicts between the supplemental proclamation and state law. It suspends a conflicting provision of state law for the emergency’s duration to the extent of that conflict.

Recovery Efforts Continue

The proclamation says continued emergency measures are necessary because some counties still face effects from the hurricane. As a result, the extension maintains the emergency declaration while recovery efforts continue.

Ivey issued the proclamation under the Alabama Emergency Management Act of 1955. Secretary of State Wes Allen also attested to the document, which bears the Great Seal of Alabama.
