Cherokee Electric Prioritizes Local Needs Ahead of Hurricane Isaias

CENTRE– Cherokee Electric Cooperative says local needs come first as it prepares for Hurricane Isaias.

In a conversation with WEIS Radio, the cooperative said it had received requests to provide assistance in other affected areas of Alabama, if needed.

However, Cherokee Electric will keep its crews and equipment available locally until it determines whether the storm creates needs here.

The cooperative cited the possibility of winds reaching 40 to 60 mph as a reason to maintain those resources locally. Its priority is to assess potential damage and ensure crews remain available where needed.

Once local danger has passed, the cooperative will assess conditions before deciding whether to send crews elsewhere in Alabama.

Any decision to assist other areas will depend on local conditions and the cooperative’s ability to meet needs here first.
