BEREA– A Berea traffic stop Tuesday night, Oct. 6, led to drug charges against a Cedar Bluff woman. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy found methamphetamine and other illegal drugs during the stop.
Because residents had reported concerns about drug activity, a deputy was conducting extra patrol in Berea. Then the deputy saw a driver without a seat belt and stopped the vehicle.
During the stop, the deputy found what the office described as a trafficking amount of methamphetamine. The deputy also found other illegal drugs, according to the office. However, the post did not specify a drug weight or identify the other substances.
The sheriff’s office identified the person arrested as Latrisha Mobbs, 40, of Cedar Bluff. She faces a charge of trafficking methamphetamine. She also faces charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana. In addition, the office listed a charge of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. The sheriff’s office reported Mobbs’s transfer to the Cherokee County Detention Center.
Sheriff Jeff Shaver said residents’ reports help deputies focus on areas where people have raised concerns. “When people in our communities report problems, we want them to know we’re listening,” Shaver said.
The charges are allegations. Mobbs is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
