GADSDEN– Gadsden State Police and Public Safety Chief Jay Freeman took the oath as a part-time FBI task force officer. The department said he will serve with the North Alabama Violent Crimes Task Force.

Freeman joined more than 50 task force officers from agencies across north and central Alabama for the ceremony. The partnership also offers opportunities for specialized training and investigative resources, according to the department. In addition, the department cited information sharing and behavioral threat assessment capabilities that could benefit Gadsden State and nearby communities.

Gadsden State President Alan Smith said the partnership will strengthen campus safety efforts. “The safety of our students, employees and visitors is a top priority at Gadsden State,” Smith said. He also said the task force connection will provide access to more resources and expertise.

The department thanked FBI Birmingham Special Agent in Charge Fitzgibbons and Assistant Special Agent in Charge Castillo for their leadership. It also credited Smith and Gadsden State’s executive cabinet for supporting the Police and Public Safety Department.
