CENTRE– Cherokee County Fields of Faith will bring a message of Christian faith and encouragement to Centre on Wednesday, Oct. 7. The gathering begins at 6:30 p.m. at Cherokee County High School, with coach Chad Prewett as the featured speaker.

The event connects local participants with a broader Fellowship of Christian Athletes ministry that brings faith into sports settings. FCA encourages athletes to share their beliefs and challenge their peers to read the Bible and follow Jesus Christ.

Chad Prewett Brings a Background in Coaching and Service

Prewett joined Auburn’s men’s basketball staff in 2014 after more than 20 years in high school coaching. He later served in several roles, including director of operations and chief of staff.

Auburn Athletics announced his promotion to assistant coach in August 2023. The university also credited him with 10 state championships during his high school coaching career.

His work at Auburn extended beyond basketball as well, including involvement in charitable efforts supporting children and families.

In a 2017 Auburn profile, Prewett described his approach to serving others: “My goal is to be able to make a difference every day. You do that by loving others.”

Fields of Faith Encourages Students to Share Their Faith

According to FCA, a typical Fields of Faith gathering includes worship, personal testimonies, and a challenge to read the Bible. Participants also have opportunities to receive prayer and respond to the messages they hear.

Although athletes lead the ministry, FCA says anyone in the community may attend. Its purpose also reaches beyond a single evening, encouraging participants to put their Christian faith into daily practice.

The movement began holding events in 2004, when more than 6,000 students gathered in Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas. Since then, it has expanded to communities well beyond those first gatherings, according to FCA’s history of the program.

While Fields of Faith has a traditional national observance, local communities can also schedule gatherings throughout the year. Cherokee County’s event is Oct. 7, with the local flyer identifying Prewett as the speaker.

Cherokee County High School is located at 910 Warrior Drive in Centre.
