CEDAR BLUFF– Union State Bank is asking Alabama and Auburn fans to turn their Iron Bowl rivalry into food donations. Its Cedar Bluff office is collecting nonperishable items through Nov. 30.
Donors can drop off food at 3460 Old Highway 9 in Cedar Bluff. The bank is accepting donations at its other locations as well. At the Cedar Bluff office, a hand-drawn display invites fans to support their team and tackle hunger.
The bank says the fan base with the most donations will claim bragging rights for the year. But the drive’s main purpose is to support food assistance groups across three counties. In Cherokee County, donations will benefit the Family Care Center Food Bank in Centre.
Family Care Center says it has served Cherokee County since 2008. For example, the nonprofit provides food and clothing to people in need. It says it now serves more than 600 families each month. In addition, local businesses, churches, individual donors, and volunteers help support its work.
The drive will also support Backpack Buddies in St. Clair County. Meanwhile, Jefferson County donations will support the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama, according to the bank.
Union State Bank traces its roots to Pell City in 1903. Today, it operates eight offices across northeast and central Alabama. Those include its Cedar Bluff and Centre locations. This drive gives local fans a chance to back their team and help stock a neighbor’s pantry.
