ROME– A Floyd County child cruelty case has resulted in six felony charges against two Rome residents.

The Floyd County Police Department arrested Clayton Dewayne Morgan, 37, and Leeali Cheyenne Morgan, 28, Monday at a Blacks Bluff Road home. An official Floyd County Sheriff’s Office media report lists both as Rome residents.

According to the report, each faces three counts of first-degree cruelty to children. Additionally, the charges allege deprivation of necessary sustenance under Georgia law.

Meanwhile, WRGA, citing jail records, reported that three children, ages 4, 6, and 9, lived in deplorable conditions. The outlet said insects infested the residence and filth covered it.

However, the public arrest report does not include that narrative or identify either defendant’s relationship to the children.

The charges are allegations, and a court has not determined guilt. Under law, both defendants retain the presumption of innocence.
