Mrs. Alicia June Cargle Matheny of Centre, Alabama, passed away Aug. 29, 2026.

Alicia was born in Pontiac, Michigan, in 1957 and went to Pontiac Central High and Oakland University. She also attended and received a B.S. from Berry College, then earned her master’s degree from the University of Alabama.

Alicia was a wise mother and a schoolteacher in Centre. She was married to Charles T. Matheny, and they have two sons, Charles Andrew Tilman “Andy” Matheny and Colin O’Hara Matheny. Both sons are physician assistants in Rome, Georgia.

Alicia has five grandchildren: Nate and Myles (Andy and Heather), and James, Ben, and Caroline (Colvin and Emily).

Alicia was preceded in death by her parents, James and Iva Jo Cargle of Centre, Alabama. Alicia has one surviving sister, Alana Marie Allen of Centre.

There are no funeral arrangements at this time.
