Collinsville opens football season with 24-8 win at Sylvania

SYLVANIA – Sylas Adams ran for 119 yards on 12 carries, including a 59-yard touchdown, to help Collinsville claim a 24-8 season-opening football win at Sylvania on Friday.

Mason McAteer completed 11-of-16 pass attempts for 163 yards for the Panthers (1-0). He also ran for 52 yards on seven carries.

Jeremiah Killian was McAteer’s top receiver. He caught three passes for 61 yards.

Noah Johnson got the Panthers on the board in the second quarter on a 5-yard run. Uriel Cornejo added the extra point to give Collinsville at 7-0 advantage.

After Adams scored the Panthers’ next touchdown, Cornejo connected on a 33-yard field goal to extend Collinsville’s lead to 17-0 at halftime.

Johnson scored his second touchdown of the game in the third quarter, this one from 13 yards, for the Panthers’ final score. He finished with 23 yards on four carries with two touchdowns.

Sylvania (0-1) prevented the shutout on a 1-yard Colin Parham run in the fourth quarter. Parham added the 2-point conversion for the final.

Collinsville returns to action on Sept. 4 by hosting Brindlee Mountain.
