At the July 20th city council meeting, Mayor Jeff Chandler announced city personnel changes. With Ross Orr and Shelton Driskill set to retire, Collinsville has hired Ricky Robles, Kevin McElrath, and Kenneth Wilbanks. While McElrath is completing the last two weeks of his previous job, Robles and Wilbanks will start duties such as mowing and training for garbage truck routes.
Shelby Simpson, Children’s Librarian, summarized the efforts of the summer reading program. Through June and July the library saw 113 children attend the program. The kids learned about bugs, designed their own paper lantern goldfish, and placed flags at the park the week of the Fourth. Kindergarten through 2nd graders decorated feathers that were used to create an eagle that will be donated to Collinsville School.
Mayor Chandler also announced that an easement was signed for the park’s new baseball field. The mayor warned that re-routing the electrical lines may create a power outage on a Sunday in early August.
Police Chief Ray Morales reported that the department has picked up the previously approved police truck. The chief thanked the council and expressed his satisfaction with the vehicle.
Fire Chief David Bowen reported that the department will be applying for an RC&D Grant. The chief also announced that the Collinsville Nursing Home made a donation to the department.
The council went into executive session late in their meeting but took no action after returning from council chambers.
