Teen Dies Following Apparent Drowning at Armuchee Park

ROME, Ga. – A 14-year-old Rome teen has died following an apparent drowning Monday evening at Armuchee Park in Floyd County.

According to authorities, emergency crews responded to Armuchee Park on Jones Mill Road after receiving reports that a teenage boy had gone underwater while swimming in Armuchee Creek with friends. Initial reports indicate the teen jumped from a popular diving rock at approximately 8:45 p.m. but failed to resurface. Friends immediately called 911.

A multi-agency search was launched involving the Floyd County Fire Department, Floyd County Police Department, and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. Rescue crews later recovered the teen’s body from the water.

The Floyd County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim as 14-year-old Tyler Brown of Rome.

Authorities said there is no indication of foul play, and the incident is being investigated as an apparent drowning. Brown’s body has been transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for an autopsy as the investigation continues.

The tragic incident serves as a reminder for swimmers and families to exercise caution when enjoying natural waterways, particularly as the Independence Day holiday approaches and more people head to area rivers, creeks, and lakes.
