
SOUTHSIDE — The City of Southside has recognized retired U.S. Army Colonel Joe C. Creel as the inaugural recipient of its Hometown Heroes Award.
Mayor Joey Statum and the Southside City Council presented the honor, highlighting Creel’s military service, leadership, and continued involvement in the community.
City officials described Creel as a decorated veteran and respected leader who has devoted much of his life to serving both his country and others. They noted that his contributions extend beyond his military career, reflecting a lasting commitment to public service and the Southside community.
The Hometown Heroes Award was established by the city to recognize individuals who have demonstrated exceptional service, leadership, and dedication.
Officials said selecting Creel as the first recipient reflects his long-standing record of achievement and the respect he has earned throughout the community.

Mayor Statum and the City Council expressed their appreciation for Creel’s service and encouraged residents to join in recognizing his accomplishments and contributions to Southside.
