CENTRE- An elderly couple suffering from dementia who was reported missing earlier this week was safely located following an overnight search involving the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and assistance from the Russellville Police Department.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, family members contacted authorities after the couple went missing. Deputies began searching throughout the night after learning the couple did not have cell phones or another way to contact them.

During the search, deputies utilized FLOCK camera technology to help trace the couple’s travel route. Information gathered through the camera system was shared with surrounding law enforcement agencies as authorities worked to determine the couple’s location.

After receiving updates from Cherokee County deputies, the Russellville Police Department began searching in its area and ultimately located the couple after discovering they had been involved in a vehicle accident.

Authorities said the couple was found safely and did not suffer serious injuries.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office noted that FLOCK camera technology is used by law enforcement agencies to assist in locating missing individuals, identifying stolen vehicles, tracking suspects, and providing information during emergency situations. Officials emphasized that while the technology does not replace officers or traditional investigations, it can provide valuable assistance during time-sensitive incidents.

The sheriff’s office also expressed appreciation to the Russellville Police Department for its assistance and rapid response, crediting the agency’s efforts in helping bring the situation to a safe conclusion.
