Marshall County Sheriff’s Office Offering Citizen’s Firearms Safety Course

MARSHALL COUNTY — Marshall County residents interested in learning more about firearm safety and responsible handling will have an opportunity to participate in an upcoming Citizen’s Firearms Safety Course offered by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office.

The one-day course is scheduled for Saturday, May 30, 2026, beginning at 9 a.m. and is open to Marshall County residents who are at least 18 years of age.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the Citizen’s Firearms Safety Course, commonly referred to as CFSC, is designed to provide participants with both classroom instruction and hands-on range experience to improve firearm knowledge and safe handling practices.

The course will begin with a classroom session at the Marshall County Fraternal Order of Police Headquarters, located at 2201 Browns Valley Road in Guntersville. During this portion of training, instructors will cover firearm safety, firearm features, and current Alabama firearm laws. Officials say the classroom segment will last approximately one hour.

Participants are reminded that firearms are not permitted during the classroom portion of the course.

Following classroom instruction, attendees will travel a short distance to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office firing range for hands-on training with certified firearms instructors. During the range portion, students will learn safe shooting techniques and proper firearm operation under instructor supervision.

Those planning to attend must provide their own firearm and bring at least one box of ammunition. Participants are also required to bring proper eye and ear protection. The Sheriff’s Office additionally recommends bringing sunscreen and water for outdoor range activities.

Officials note that course dates are based on instructor and range availability and may be adjusted due to weather conditions.

Residents interested in attending are encouraged to register online by visiting www.marshallso.org, selecting the menu tab in the upper left corner, and clicking on the calendar tab to complete registration. The Sheriff’s Office says participants will be contacted regarding their selected course date following registration.
