CALHOUN COUNTY — The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office announced that detectives with its Offender Management Bureau recently conducted a focused enforcement operation targeting registered offenders believed to be out of compliance with legal registration requirements within the county.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, detectives identified and actively investigated 21 target offenders connected to outstanding warrants during the operation.
As a result of the effort, authorities made seven arrests, including five involving confirmed violations of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, commonly known as SORNA. Two additional individuals were arrested on unrelated outstanding warrants.
Investigators also determined that eight of the offenders being sought were already incarcerated in other jurisdictions. Following records verification and investigative review, three offenders were removed from active status.
The operation also included multiple additional compliance checks conducted throughout the county as detectives worked to verify offender information and registration compliance.
Sheriff Falon Hurst said the enforcement effort produced additional investigative leads, including information extending beyond Calhoun County. That information will be forwarded to detectives assigned to the U.S. Marshals Service Task Force for further follow-up.
Officials said operations of this nature serve multiple purposes beyond arrests, including maintaining accurate offender records, locating absconded offenders, verifying compliance with registration laws, and developing intelligence for future investigations and enforcement efforts.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office stated it remains committed to aggressively pursuing offenders who fail to comply with registration requirements while continuing efforts to protect the communities it serves.
Authorities noted that registration requirements vary depending on several legal factors, including an offender’s original charges, the age and relationship of the victim, and other case-specific circumstances.
