Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office Recognizes Deputies for Lifesaving Actions and Valor

CALHOUN COUNTY— Several members of the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office were recently recognized for acts of bravery, lifesaving efforts, and professional service during dangerous and high-risk incidents, according to Sheriff Falon Hurst.
During a recognition ceremony, Sheriff Hurst honored deputies who responded in life-threatening situations and demonstrated courage and commitment while serving the public.
Deputy Prescott was presented with the Sheriff’s Office Lifesaving Award for his actions involving a driver experiencing a medical emergency while traveling on the wrong side of U.S. Highway 431. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Prescott used his patrol vehicle to immobilize the individual’s vehicle, bringing the dangerous situation to an end and allowing emergency medical assistance to be provided.
Several deputies were also recognized for their actions during a dangerous two-county vehicle pursuit involving armed suspects.
Corporal Cavitt and Deputies Ontiveros, Emerson, Grizzard, and Clay each received the Sheriff’s Office Valor Award for their involvement in the pursuit, during which one of the suspects reportedly fired shots at law enforcement officers.
Following the conclusion of that pursuit, Detectives Trammell and Sims, along with Corporal Bowen, were awarded Sheriff’s Office Commendations for their actions that assisted in the successful apprehension of the suspects.
Authorities said the individuals involved in the pursuit were ultimately arrested and charged with multiple counts of attempted murder, among other offenses.
Sheriff Hurst expressed appreciation for the deputies’ dedication and service, recognizing the risks law enforcement officers face daily while protecting the community.
