WEIS Radio Honors Educators on Teacher Appreciation Day

As communities across the country observe Teacher Appreciation Day, WEIS Radio is joining in to recognize and thank the educators who dedicate their lives to shaping the future of local students.

Celebrated each year during Teacher Appreciation Week, which takes place during the first full week of May, Teacher Appreciation Day is a time set aside to acknowledge the vital role teachers play in education and community development. The tradition dates back to 1953, when former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt helped advocate for a national day to honor teachers. In 1984, the National Parent Teacher Association established Teacher Appreciation Week as an annual event, with the Tuesday of that week designated as Teacher Appreciation Day.

Across the WEIS listening area, teachers serve not only as educators, but also as mentors, role models, and steady sources of encouragement for students of all ages. From early childhood classrooms to high school graduation stages, their impact reaches far beyond textbooks and lesson plans.

WEIS Radio extends its sincere appreciation to all local teachers who invest their time, energy, and passion into educating the youth of the region. Their commitment helps build strong foundations for future generations, contributing to the growth and success of communities throughout the area.

Whether adapting to new challenges, supporting students through difficult moments, or celebrating academic achievements, educators consistently go above and beyond in their roles. Their influence can be seen in the confidence, knowledge, and character of the students they serve each day.

On this Teacher Appreciation Day, WEIS Radio encourages the community to take a moment to recognize and thank the teachers who make a difference in classrooms across the region.
