94th Round of the Lions East/West All-Star Baseball Tournament

Rainbow City — The excitement of high-level youth baseball is coming to Vivian Maddox Sports Complex as the East/West All-Star Baseball Tournament takes the Pioneer Field on May 5 at 5:00 p.m.

This highly anticipated event will showcase coach-nominated All-Star players representing over 10 counties from across the region, bringing together some of the top young talent in North Alabama. Players selected for the teams have been recognized by their coaches for outstanding performance and leadership, representing their programs at the highest level.

“This game has become a long-standing tradition in our area,” said Mollie Smith, tournament director for the past four years. “Every year, I have dads of players tell me they played in the East/West in high school. These young men may not realize how important this game is right now, but as it becomes a family tradition and a lasting teenage memory, it means a lot. This evening will be the last time many of these players set foot on the diamond.”

Smith also recognized the efforts behind the scenes that make the event possible. “We could not do this without the dedication of people like Christy and Debbie Medlin, who have worked tirelessly to help recruit teams and players from across the state. I’m immensely proud of all the Lions who have played a part in this. Their commitment is a big reason this event continues to grow each year.”

The tournament is proudly sponsored by the Etowah County Lions Club, one of the newest 501(c)(3) organizations in the area. The club is focused on combating the hunger crisis and addressing the lack of resources for individuals without transportation throughout Etowah County.

Adding to the evening’s significance, longtime local media personality Carl Brady will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Brady, who played in the East/West game during his high school years, returns in a full-circle moment.

The tournament committee also extends its appreciation to the City of Rainbow City and Parks and Recreation Director Phillip Hollingsworth for their continued support in making this event possible at one of the area’s premier facilities.
