Sand Rock, Cedar Bluff both go 1-1 in Class 2A, Area 13 softball tournament

JACKSONVILLE – Sand Rock’s Kinzlee Peek singled in the winning run, lifting the Lady Wildcats to a 4-3 victory in the Class 2A, Area 13 softball tournament at Jacksonville State University on Saturday.

Aubie Camp, Macy Martin, and Kinzlee Peek all collected two hits for Sand Rock. One of Martin’s hits was a double. She also drove in a run. Peek also drove in a run. Alyvia McMichen also doubled and drove in a run.

Emma Sipsy surrendered an earned run on five hits with a walk and three strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings to earn the win.

Mackenzie Kimmons suffered the loss for the Lady Tigers. She allowed one earned run on 11 hits with two walks and three strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings.

Ciana Smith went 2-for-4 for the Lady Tigers. Kylie Vadon had a hit and two RBIs.

The Lady Tigers rebounded in the losers bracket by defeating Gaston 14-1.

In that game, Kylie Vadon went 3-for-4 with a triple, and Paityn Walker was 2-for-3 with three RBI. Rylie Walker, Tylee Bradford, and Piper Cromer all collected multiple hits for the Lady Tigers. Rylie Walker also stole two bases.

Callie Brown earned the win. She gave up an unearned run on three hits with a walk and three strikeouts over five innings.

In the winners bracket, Pleasant Valley rallied for a 14-11 victory over Sand Rock. No further information on that game was made available as of this posting.

Sand Rock and Cedar Bluff will battle again in an elimination game on Monday at 3 p.m. The winner will take on Pleasant Valley on Monday in the championship at 5 p.m.
