Weiss Lake Cleanup Underway as Alabama Power “Renew Our Rivers” Weekend Begins

Cherokee County- Cleanup efforts are underway at Weiss Lake as volunteers, students, and community partners take part in Alabama Power’s Renew Our Rivers weekend initiative.

An early start to the cleanup has already brought out volunteers from Sand Rock High School’s LEO Club and Cherokee County High School’s LEO Club, who have been busy collecting garbage along both land and lake areas around Weiss Lake.

As part of the coordinated effort, Waste Management will place dumpsters at the boat ramp on the causeway between Centre and Cedar Bluff to assist with the disposal of collected debris throughout the weekend.

The Weiss Lake Improvement Association will be set up at the boat ramp location beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday, providing volunteers with supplies including bags, grabbers, and gloves to assist with cleanup operations.

Organizers say Alabama Power will also provide pizza at noon for those participating in the cleanup as a way to support and thank volunteers for their efforts.

Community members are encouraged to come out and take part in the Renew Our Rivers cleanup event and help keep Weiss Lake clean and well maintained.
