State high school baseball playoffs begin this weekend

The Alabama High School Athletic Association state high school baseball playoffs begin this weekend. Five area teams are among those who have qualified for the first round. They’ll all compete in a best-of-three game series, beginning with doubleheaders on Friday. If-necessary games are scheduled for Saturday.

In Class 1A, Area 12 champion Spring Garden will host Area 11 runner-up Victory Christian beginning on Friday at 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. The if-necessary game is at noon on Saturday.

Class 2A, Area 14 runner-up Sand Rock will travel to Area 13 winner Mars Hill. Game times have not yet been announced.

In Class 3A, Area 13 winner Collinsville hosts Area 14 runner-up Colbert Heights on Friday at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. The if-necessary game is scheduled for noon on Saturday. Area 11 champion Piedmont entertains Area 12 runner-up Vinemont on Friday at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. A third game, if necessary, is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Class 4A, Area 12 runner-up Cherokee County travels to Area 11 winner Westbrook Christian on Friday at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. The if-necessary game is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
