Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Personnel Complete Peer Support Training

CENTRE — Two members of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office have completed specialized training focused on peer support and officer wellness.
Sergeant Valarie Williams and Corrections Officer Olivia Tanner recently completed instruction through the Alabama Law Enforcement Alliance for Peer Support, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The program trains law enforcement personnel to recognize signs of stress, trauma, and burnout among fellow officers. It also provides guidance on how to offer support, communicate effectively, and connect individuals with appropriate mental health and wellness resources when needed.
Officials said the training is part of an ongoing effort to strengthen officer wellness and ensure support systems are in place for those serving in law enforcement roles.
The Sheriff’s Office expressed pride in the completion of the program and emphasized the importance of continued focus on the mental and emotional health of its personnel.
