Drought Conditions Persist Across Alabama, Severe Levels Widespread

Drought conditions continue to impact the entire state of Alabama, according to the latest Weekly Drought Analysis released by the National Weather Service in Birmingham.
The report, issued April 16, shows that 100 percent of the state is experiencing some level of dryness. The largest portion—42 percent—is classified under severe drought conditions, while 25 percent of Alabama is experiencing extreme drought. An additional 22 percent is under moderate drought, and 11 percent is considered abnormally dry. No areas of the state are currently drought-free or in exceptional drought status.
The most intense conditions are concentrated across southeastern portions of the state, where extreme drought continues to expand.
Forecasters note that while there is a chance for low to moderate rainfall in the coming days, it is not expected to significantly improve the ongoing drought conditions.
The next drought update is scheduled for release on April 23.
