Gadsden State Police and Public Safety Hosts Regional Leadership Training

GADSDEN — The Gadsden State Police and Public Safety Department recently hosted a regional leadership training course, bringing together law enforcement officers from across the area for a day focused on professional development and effective leadership.

The class centered on the concept of influence and the ability to lead without relying on rank or title, emphasizing accountability, impact, and setting a daily example within agencies and communities.

The training featured Brigadier General Christopher Kemp (Ret.) as the keynote speaker. Kemp retired from the United States Army after more than 35 years of service, with experience in executive leadership, process improvement, telecommunications, information technology, and cybersecurity. During his military career, he spent three years deployed in the Middle East, commanding soldiers in direct support of combat operations.

In addition to his military service, Kemp has an extensive background in law enforcement, including 15 years with the Gulf Shores Police Department, where he served as Chief Investigator. He also held leadership roles as Director of Operations and Chief of Staff for a Department of Defense counter-drug task force. His credentials include two master’s degrees and graduation from the FBI National Academy. His honors include the Distinguished Service Medal, Bronze Star, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and Combat Action Badge.

Organizers highlighted the importance of continued training opportunities for law enforcement professionals, noting that investing in leadership development strengthens agencies and enhances public safety outcomes.

The event was made possible through partnerships with the Alabama State Lodge Fraternal Order of Police and the Alabama Community College System.

Officials said the training reflects an ongoing commitment to equipping officers with the tools and knowledge needed to better serve their communities and build stronger, more effective agencies.
