WEIS Radio Wins Three ABBY Awards at Alabama Broadcasters Association Ceremony
BIRMINGHAM — WEIS Radio was honored with three ABBY Awards at the Alabama Broadcasters Association awards dinner held Saturday evening, April 11, at The Club in Birmingham.
The ABBY Awards, which stands for Alabama’s Best in Broadcasting Yearly, recognize excellence in radio and television across the state. Often referred to as the “Oscars” of Alabama broadcasting, the awards highlight outstanding work in journalism, production, and community service. Entries are judged by out-of-state professionals and must be produced entirely by the submitting station.
WEIS Radio earned top honors in Social Media for the state of Alabama, Hard Hitting News in the small market category, and Newscaster of the Year, awarded to Brian Lane.
Station owner Jerry Baker and members of the WEIS staff took the stage to accept the Social Media award. Baker also accepted the Newscaster of the Year award on behalf of Lane, who was unable to attend, and joined News Director Tony Hathcock in accepting the Hard Hitting News award.
Those attending the event included Jerry Baker, Andrew Hughes, Shannon Fagan, Crystal Wells, Tony Hathcock and their spouses, who enjoyed the evening’s reception, dinner, and awards presentations.
The station expressed its appreciation to the Alabama Broadcasters Association for the recognition and noted the honor of being recognized among peers from across the state. WEIS also extended a heartfelt thank you to its listeners, emphasizing that their trust, support, and connection to the station are the driving force behind everything it does.
Station representatives said serving the people of Cherokee County, the surrounding communities, and all of Northeast Alabama is not just a responsibility, but a privilege they are proud to carry every day.
