Rainbow City Reminds Property Owners of Nuisance Ordinance Requirements

RAINBOW CITY — City officials are reminding property owners that vacant lots and properties with vacant buildings must be properly maintained in accordance with Rainbow City’s nuisance ordinance.
Under the ordinance, property owners are responsible for maintaining their properties, including regularly cutting grass and keeping lots free from conditions that could be considered a nuisance.
City officials say failure to properly maintain vacant properties could result in the city taking action to address the issue. If the city is required to perform maintenance, the cost of the work may be assessed to the property owner.
Those costs may then be placed as a lien against the property through the Etowah County Tax Assessor’s Office.
City leaders say the ordinance helps ensure neighborhoods remain clean, safe, and well maintained, and they are asking property owners to do their part in helping maintain the appearance and condition of the community.
