Mr. William Gene Walker, age 77, of Centre, passed away April 4, 2026, at his residence.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:30 PM, graveside at Noah Baptist Church Cemetery on Thursday, April 9, 2026,with Rev. Roger Whorton officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 2 PM at the Perry Funeral Home and then leave to go to cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Nephews Eric Walker, Chad Walker, Johnny Puckett, Brad Walker, Logan Walker, and Nick Walker. Honorary pallbearers will be Friends Steve Lindsey, David Garner, Richard Lindsey, Jackie Givens, Buddy West, and Frog West.
Mr. Walker is survived by his sons, Darren (Mary Ann) Walker and Kevin (Tera) Walker;Grandchildren, Detective Matthew (Crystal ) Walker, Marisa (Craig) Wilkins, Mitchel (Samantha) Langley, Amanda (Junior) Lawson, Katie (Deacon)McDaniel, Eli Walker, Nolan Walker; Great Grandchildren, Archer, Abby, Paxton, Makai,Emma, Hudson, Jade, Eva, Xander, Sylar, Naomi, andGarry;Brothers, Michael (Gail) Walker, Kenny (Glenda) Walker, Steve (Mary Ellen) Walker, Whitt (Paula) Walker, and Scott (Therisa) Walker; and Sister, Kay (Tim) Hill, as well as 16 Nieces and Nephews.
He is preceded in death by his Parents, William Huston Walker and Arnice Sue Bell Walker,And his Son, David Matthew Walker.
Mr. Walker Graduated High school and was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam war.He spent 2 years with the 73rd SACin reconnaissanceflying aboard the OV1 Mohawk. He kept in touch with all his army buddies and never missed a reunion in 30 years.
After his service to his country,he went to work for Goodyear and married the mother of his 3 sons Wanda Chandler Pridgen; They were married for 21 years and still had an everlasting connection over the love of their children.
After Goodyear he Hauled wire for lifelong friend Steve Lindsey until getting his own truck and hauling for himself.
Then he started doing what he loved the most and that was farming. He worked at Integrated at night and farmed with his father-in-law Walter Gramlin Chandler during the day. In the fall they would haul Cotton Pickers to Brownsville Texas toaid in harvesting their crops.
He worked as a farm mechanic, hauled seed, and liquid fertilizer for Lindsey Brothers.
During his years withthe Floyd County Hwy Dept, he married Nina McCueand even though they divorced they were still close friends.
After Gene Retired from the FCHD He then Hauled Modules and Mechanicfor Cherokee Gin in the fall and Fertilizer for Ellis Ag in the spring.
Gene was known for his hard workingdo it right mentality, His laughter and hissense of humorwere his charm. His favorite things to grow these last several years weredelicious watermelons and the sweetest cantaloupes.He had just planted 40 hills of cantaloupes, and 80 hills of watermelonshe loved to share them with everyone he could think of.
Everybody knew If you needed help all you had to do was call, he would be there. He loved hanging out with his friends and spending time with his family. He enjoyed watching all sports and played basketball and baseball in his prime. ButThe Alabama Crimson Tide was his favorite!
