Mrs. Doris Barkley, age 80 of Centre, passed away on April 5, 2026, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 7 P.M. Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at the Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Family will be receiving friends from 4 P.M. until the hour of service. A graveside committal service will be held at 10 A.M. on Thursday, April 9, at Cherokee Memory Gardens. Noah Baptist Church will provide lunch for the friends and family of Mrs. Barkley, following her burial.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Buddy; sons, Chuck (Heather) and Scott (Amy); grandchildren, Rylee (Aidan), Brooklynn, Jackson, Skyler, Kendall, Carson, Bryce, Charlotte, and Kaiden; sisters, Marie Carroll, Syble Wood, and Leisa (David) Sparkman; brothers, Tommy (Judy), Ricky, and Gerald Vaughn; numerous nieces and nephews.
Doris is also survived by her sister-in-law, Brenda Vaughn, who was her live-in caretaker, conversationalist and prayer partner in her final months.
As a driver for the Cherokee County School System, she often gave her own money toward food and Christmas presents for needy children who rode her bus.
She is preceded in death by her son, Lance; parents, Ethel and Gordon Vaughn; sisters, Helen Vaughn, Shirley Floyd, and Mary Graves; and brothers, Wendell, James, and Steve Vaughn.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Children and Seniors Assistance Foundation in Centre.
