ALEA CMV Inspection Leads to Drug Arrest, 185 Pounds of Marijuana Seized

ST. CLAIR COUNTY —A commercial motor vehicle inspection conducted by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) led to a significant drug seizure Tuesday, March 31, in St. Clair County.
According to ALEA, a trooper assigned to the agency’s Motor Carrier Safety Unit (MCSU) conducted an inspection of a tractor on Interstate 20 near the 143 mile marker.
During the inspection, the driver of the tractor presented an invalid driver’s license. Authorities later determined the driver to be an illegal immigrant and identified him as Dajun Sun, 57, of Oregon City, Oregon.
Further investigation of the tractor revealed 23 boxes containing approximately 185 pounds of marijuana.
Sun was arrested and charged with Drug Trafficking and Operating a Commercial Motor Vehicle without a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). He was transported to the St. Clair County Jail, where he was booked on a $1,500,000 bond.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information has been released at this time.
