Verna Carolyn Young, age 94, of Cedar Bluff, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 30, 2026, at Cherokee County Health and Rehab.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 12:00 PM in the Perry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Cosby officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will follow in Hopewell Advent Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Blake Stinson, Brett Burgess, Kyle Burgess, Joel Wester, Ryne Wester, Samuel Cosby, Granger Surrett, Blake Wester, and Chad Wester.
Ms. Young is survived by her lifelong best friend, Barbara Gipson; her daughter, Tonya; and special cousins, Roy Lee Wester, Tommy Young, Regina (Phil) Stinson, Pam (Tim) Burgess, Neal (Susan) Wester, Norma Jean Young, Larry Mayne, and Charles & Lisa Pierce; as well as a host of other family members, friends, and loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Clifford Young and Lillie Cathrine Young; and her sisters, Vera Young and Barbara Ann Woodall.
Ms. Young was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and was known for ministering to those around her, often sharing the message, “See what God has done.” She retired as a teacher from Cedar Bluff School after many years of dedicated service, touching the lives of countless students in her community.
The family respectfully requests no flowers. Donations may be made to the Cedar Bluff First Baptist Church Building Fund in her memory. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Cherokee County Health and Rehab for their loving care.
