Two-Vehicle Crash in Cherokee County Sends Three to Hospital

CHEROKEE COUNTY — A two-vehicle crash in Cherokee County Thursday morning left three people injured and temporarily shut down a portion of Highway 35 north of Watson’s Crossroads.

The collision, reported as a near head-on crash, occurred just after 11 a.m. Cherokee 911 initially received reports of multiple injuries and possible entrapment.

Emergency personnel from the Broomtown Fire Department, Gaylesville Fire Department, Cherokee Rescue Squad, Cedar Bluff Police Department, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, and Atrium Health Floyd EMS responded to the scene. Broomtown Fire and Cherokee Rescue began extrication efforts with assistance from Gaylesville Fire.

One female patient sustained critical injuries and was transported to Cherokee Medical Center, where she was stabilized before being airlifted by Survival Flight to a trauma center for further treatment.

A male patient was transported to a landing zone established on Highway 35 at Watson’s Crossroads and was also airlifted by Survival Flight to a trauma center.

A third patient was transported by ground ambulance to Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center in Rome.

Responding agencies also assisted with traffic control and established a safe landing zone for air medical transport.

The crash remains under investigation by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division.
