Collinsville sweeps University Charter, Paragould (Ark.) in Gulf Coast Classic baseball tournament

ROBERTSDALE – The Collinsville Panthers improved to 3-0 in the Gulf Coast Classic baseball tournament on Tuesday, sweeping a doubleheader from University Charter and Paragould (Ark). The scores were 17-2 and 11-2.

In the win over University Charter, the Class 3A, No. 3 Panthers (15-1) scored nine runs in the top of the first inning, four in the second, and four more in the third.

Gavin Lang went 2-for-3 with a double, a run, and two RBIs. Mason McAteer managed a pair of hits, three runs, and two RBIs. Jeremiah Killian also contributed two hits and four RBIs.

Brantley Daugherty delivered a hit, a walk, two runs, and two RBIs. Bronner Jones collected a hit, a walk, two runs, and two RBIs. Carson Clanton had a hit and scored a run.

Noah Johnson walks and scored three runs. Sylas Adams walked twice, scored twice, and had a RBI. Bentley Jones and Colton Pettus both walked and scored a run. Chase Godshall scored a run.

Adams earned the win on the mound. He tossed three innings and allowed an earned run on three hits with a walk and four strikeouts.

In the win over Paragould, the Panthers pushed across seven runs in the bottom of the second to take control.

Lang led the Panthers at the plate by going 3-for-4 with two runs and four RBIs. McAteer added a pair of hits, a run, and three RBIs. Pettus doubled, walked, scored a run, and had two RBIs. Bronner Jones collected a hit, a walk, two runs, and a RBI.  Killian and Jacob Niles both had a hit and a walk.

Johnson walked and scored a run. Adams and Clanton both scored a run.

Killian picked up the win after working six innings. He gave up two earned runs on six hits with a walk and five strikeouts.

Collinsville plays Oak Ridge (Tenn.) at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
