Spring Garden opens Spring Swing softball tournament with wins over Ragland, Fyffe

JACKSONVILLE – The Spring Garden Lady Panthers won a pair of softball games in the Spring Swing Tournament at Jacksonville State University on Monday. They defeated Ragland 6-2 and rallied past Fyffe 7-6 to improve to 5-4 on the season.

In the win over Ragland, Hayden Parris went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Lady Panthers. Paisley Woodall was 1-for-2 with a walk, a run, and three RBIs. Maya Jennings also went 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs. Kylie Bates was 1-for-2 with a run. Olivia Messer finished 1-for-3 with a RBI.

Kendall Birchfield picked up the win in the circle. She tossed four innings and gave up two earned runs on four hits with no walks and two strikeouts.

Against Fyffe, Spring Garden rallied from an early 5-1 deficit. The Lady Panthers capped the rally with a four-run bottom of the fourth inning.

Jennings led Spring Garden at the plate by going 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, a run, and four RBIs. Messer went 2-for-2 with a RBI. Ava Boatner doubled, scored a run, and had a RBI. Parris and Addie Word both collected a hit and two runs. Parris also walked. Lleyton Carroll contributed a hit and a run. Bates drove in a run and E. Miller drew a walk.

Word worked three innings and surrendered an earned run on no hits with four walks and a strikeout. Birchfield tossed an inning and allowed no earned runs on a hit with five walks and no strikeouts.

Spring Garden takes on Appalachian at 5:30 p.m. and Ranburne at 7 p.m. in the tournament on Tuesday.

 

Spring Garden sweeps Gaston on Saturday

SPRING GARDEN – Spring Garden took a doubleheader from Gaston on Saturday. The scores were 8-6 and 14-11.

In the first game, Messer and Parris both went 3-for-4 with a run. One of Parris’ hits was a triple. Messer also had a RBI. Jennings was 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs, and three RBIs. Woodall went 2-for-4 with a run and a RBI.

Boatner doubled and drove in a run. Word added a hit, a walk, and two runs. B. Hernandez contributed a hit. Birchfield walked twice and B. Hall scored a run.

Birchfield pitched all seven innings and allowed five earned runs on five hits with five walks and seven strikeouts.

In the second game, Word posted three hits, including two doubles, with three runs and a RBI. Parris homered and singled with three runs and three RBIs. Messer managed two hits, including a double, with two runs and three RBIs. Jennings had a pair of hits with a run and two RBIs. Carroll contributed two hits, including a double, with a run and a RBI.

Boatner and Birchfield both doubled and scored a run. Boatner also walked and had two RBIs. Woodall drew a walk and scored a run.

Word tossed five innings and gave up three earned runs on nine hits with no walks and five strikeouts. Birchfield worked two innings and surrendered three earned runs on five hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
