Cherokee County to Host Emergency Preparedness Day at Tractor Supply in Centre

CENTRE— Cherokee County Emergency Management, in partnership with Tractor Supply in Centre, will host Emergency Preparedness Day 2026 on Saturday, April 11, providing residents with an opportunity to learn how to better prepare for severe weather and other emergencies.
The free community event will take place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Tractor Supply in Centre and is designed to help local families understand the importance of emergency planning during Alabama’s severe weather season.
Attendees will have the chance to meet with local emergency officials and first responders while learning about tornado and severe weather safety, building emergency preparedness kits, and creating family safety plans. Organizers say the event aims to give residents practical tools and information that can help protect lives during emergencies.
Representatives from several organizations will be on hand to share safety information and answer questions, including the National Weather Service, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), and various local first responder agencies serving Cherokee County.
A special guest will also be featured during the event. ABC 33/40 meteorologist Evan Chickvara is scheduled to attend, offering insight into severe weather forecasting and discussing how residents can stay informed during dangerous weather situations.
Officials encourage residents from across Cherokee County and surrounding communities to attend and take advantage of the educational opportunity.
Emergency management leaders emphasize that preparation is key, noting that taking time to develop a plan and understand weather risks can make a significant difference when severe weather strikes.
The event will be held Saturday, April 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Tractor Supply in Centre. Community members of all ages are welcome to attend. 🌪️🚨
