Staff Reports

The Alabama Sports Writers Association released the first baseball and softball rankings of the season on Thursday morning. Several area teams are scattered throughout both sports.

In Class 3A baseball, Piedmont (10-2) tops the rankings while Collinsville (11-1) comes in at No. 3. Other teams nominated include Class 4A Cherokee County (6-8), Class 2A Cedar Bluff (5-9) and Sand Rock (4-10), and Class 1A Gaylesville (3-5) and Spring Garden (6-7).

Sand Rock (9-4) is the only area softball team ranked. The Lady Wildcats come in at No. 7 in Class 2A. Other area teams nominated include Cherokee County (7-5) and Cedar Bluff (4-8).
