Multi-Vehicle Crash Involving 18-Wheeler Closes I-59 in Etowah County

ETOWAH COUNTY — A multi-vehicle crash involving an 18-wheeler temporarily shut down a portion of Interstate 59 Tuesday evening, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).

The crash occurred at approximately 6:54 p.m. on March 17 within a construction zone, prompting authorities to close the northbound lanes between the 197 and 205 mile markers. As the situation developed, both northbound and southbound lanes were ultimately shut down to allow emergency personnel to respond and manage the scene.

Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division remained on-site to monitor conditions and assist with traffic control during the closure.

The roadway was reopened at approximately 8:45 p.m. after crews cleared the scene.

No additional details, including information on injuries or the cause of the crash, have been released at this time.
