Frost Advisory Issued for East Central Alabama Overnight

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Frost Advisory for much of east central Alabama, including Cherokee, Calhoun, Etowah, and surrounding counties, as temperatures are expected to drop into the mid-30s early Thursday morning.
The advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. Thursday, with forecasters warning that temperatures could fall as low as 35 degrees, creating conditions favorable for widespread frost formation.
Communities impacted include Centre, Gadsden, Anniston, Talladega, Pell City, Ashland, Heflin, and several others across the region. Additional affected areas stretch southward to Montgomery, Auburn, Troy, and Eufaula.
According to the National Weather Service, the primary concern is damage to sensitive outdoor vegetation. Frost can quickly form on exposed surfaces when temperatures hover near freezing, potentially harming or killing tender plants left unprotected.
Residents are encouraged to take precautionary measures, including covering plants or bringing them indoors if possible.
While the cold snap is expected to be brief, forecasters emphasize that even a few hours of frost conditions can have a significant impact on early spring growth.
