LEESBURG — A new space for local residents and their pets is now available in Leesburg thanks to the efforts of a local Boy Scout completing his Eagle Scout project.

Jeffery Givens officially completed his Eagle Scout project with the creation of Remi’s Dog Park at Leesburg Park. A dedication ceremony for the new dog park was held February 28.

As part of the process of earning the Eagle Scout rank, scouts are required to plan and complete a service project that benefits their community, school, or a religious organization. The project must be carefully organized, approved by the benefiting organization, and led by the scout from planning through completion.

For his project, Givens chose to build a dog park for the Town of Leesburg, providing a safe place where residents can bring their dogs to play, exercise, and train.

Over the course of more than a year, Givens worked to plan the project, identify needed materials, and gather supplies and donations. He also coordinated volunteers and directed other scouts and helpers in carrying out the work needed to complete the park.

With assistance from fellow scouts, scout parents, and support from members of the community and Weiss Lake area, the project was completed and officially opened to the public.

During the Feb. 28 ceremony, the new Remi’s Dog Park was formally dedicated, with organizers expressing appreciation to the sponsors and volunteers who helped make the project possible.

The park now provides a new recreational space for Leesburg residents and their pets, while also marking an important milestone in Givens’ journey toward achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.
