A single-vehicle crash involving an 18-wheeler Monday, March 16, has caused a road closure along Alabama Highway 9 in Cherokee County

The crash occurred at approximately 1:17 p.m. on Monday, March 16, near the 250-mile marker. According to officials, all lanes of Alabama 9 in the Cedar Bluff area are currently closed and will remain shut down for an undetermined amount of time.
The 18-wheeler involved in the crash was hauling a corrosive material, according to the placard displayed on the end of the truck.
Traffic in the area has been diverted to Highway 68 through Gaylesville and along Highway 35 back to Highway 9.
The Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency responded to the scene, and firefighters with the Cedar Bluff Fire Department donned hazmat suits to inspect the area and ensure no hazardous conditions were present.
Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates as they become available.
