Strong storms that moved through north and central Alabama Monday evening caused damage and power outages across several counties, with multiple communities in Cherokee County reporting downed trees and blocked roadways.
Areas including Leesburg, Blanche, and Gaylesville reported trees down as the storms moved through the county. The Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency said crews also responded to blocked lanes caused by storm debris in several locations.
On the north side of Weiss Lake, strong winds blew the roof off several chicken houses, adding to the storm damage reported in the area.
Utility crews with Alabama Power worked to restore electricity after storms knocked out power to thousands of customers across the region. The largest number of outages occurred in Jefferson County, where outages reached around 6,000 customers.
Additional outages were reported in Blount County, Cullman County, and Etowah County, each reporting more than 1,000 customers without power at the height of the storms.
Despite the damage, officials say no injuries were reported. Cleanup efforts and power restoration work continued Monday night as crews responded to storm-related issues across the region.
