Inspection at Cedar Bluff Motel and Store Leads to Seizure of Illegal Items and Business Closures

Cedar Bluff — An inspection conducted Friday, March 6, 2026, at the Weis Mart Motel and Weis Mart Marina has resulted in the closure of both businesses following the discovery of suspected illegal substances and multiple violations.
According to the Cedar Bluff Police Department, officers had received multiple complaints regarding ordinance violations and suspected illegal narcotics’ activity at the motel and store, located at 3480 Alabama Highway 9 in Cedar Bluff. As a result, the department initiated an investigation and requested assistance from the Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office due to concerns about potential life safety violations.

Representatives from the State Fire Marshal’s Office, the Town of Cedar Bluff’s Building Inspector, and officers with the Cedar Bluff Police Department responded to the location and made contact with the owner and manager of the property. While speaking with him, officers reported observing illegal substances in plain view inside a motel room.
Authorities then conducted a search of the motel, the owner’s vehicle, and the store. During the search, officers located numerous illegal items in all three locations, including kratom, hemp products, marijuana, THC vapes and pens, a large sum of U.S. currency, and various items of drug paraphernalia.

While officers were on scene at the store, an Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) agent arrived to conduct a separate inspection. During that inspection, proper documentation could not be provided, and citations are expected to be issued. The store’s liquor license was also seized.
Officials said both the store and motel will remain closed until the owner obtains the proper licensing and corrects the violations cited during the inspection.
Cedar Bluff Police Chief Jeremy Stepps expressed appreciation to the officers of the Cedar Bluff Police Department and the Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office for their assistance with the investigation.
