Thompson joins the department after previously serving with the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles. He brings with him approximately 20 years of law enforcement experience along with a wide range of specialized training.
In addition to his law enforcement career, Thompson is a retired Army veteran and holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
Throughout his career, Thompson has completed extensive advanced training, including certification as an FBI firearms instructor and as an integrated non-lethal weapons instructor. He has also served on a Special Reaction Team, where he was part of the entry team and worked as a sniper.
His specialized certifications include Urban and Explosives Breacher, Military Police Investigator, and FLETC Active Shooter Instructor. Thompson is also certified as a physical security and anti-terrorism officer.
