RAINBOW CITY— The Rainbow City Fire Department has announced the purchase of new advanced cardiac monitor and defibrillator systems designed to enhance the department’s ability to provide lifesaving emergency care in the field.

According to a release from the department, the new LIFEPAK 35 cardiac monitor/defibrillator units will soon be placed into service as part of the department’s Advanced Life Support operations. Officials say the new equipment represents a major upgrade in the technology available to local firefighters and paramedics when responding to medical emergencies.

The monitors provide a number of new capabilities that allow emergency responders to assess and treat cardiac patients more effectively while en route to the hospital.

Among the key features of the LIFEPAK 35 system are advanced cardiac monitoring and defibrillation functions, continuous 12-lead electrocardiogram monitoring, and integrated patient monitoring tools that track vital signs such as oxygen saturation, end-tidal carbon dioxide levels and blood pressure.

One of the most significant advancements included with the new equipment is the ability to transmit a patient’s heart rhythm directly to a hospital in real time.

Through modular transmission technology, paramedics can send a live electrocardiogram feed from the ambulance to receiving emergency departments. Instead of receiving a single printed ECG strip, hospital staff can monitor the patient’s continuous heart rhythm while the ambulance is still en route.

Department officials say this capability allows physicians and cardiac teams to begin preparing for treatment before the patient arrives, helping reduce critical treatment times and improving outcomes for patients experiencing heart attacks and other cardiac emergencies.

The monitors also provide improved interpretation of cardiac rhythms and earlier detection of heart attacks, along with continuous 12-lead monitoring displayed on the device throughout patient care.

In addition to cardiac monitoring, the system integrates multiple patient monitoring functions into a single unit, allowing responders to track several vital signs simultaneously while treating patients in the field.

Fire department leaders said the new equipment will help ensure that residents and visitors in Rainbow City, Alabama receive the highest level of Advanced Life Support care possible.

The department also expressed appreciation to city leadership for supporting the investment in upgraded emergency medical equipment.

Officials said the purchase reflects the city’s ongoing commitment to public safety and ensures firefighters and paramedics have the modern tools necessary to respond effectively to medical emergencies.

The Rainbow City Fire Department said the addition of the LIFEPAK 35 monitors reinforces its mission of providing professional service and advanced lifesaving care to the community.
