Elderly Rome Man Scammed Out of Thousands of Dollars; Arrest Made

ROME — A 35-year-old Canton man has been arrested after stealing $9,000 from an elderly Rome resident.

According to reports, Quinton Antonio Wood Sr. was jailed in Rome. He falsely informed the victim that his bank account had been compromised and instructed him to withdraw funds for safekeeping. Authorities said Wood then went to the victim’s home, represented himself in an official capacity, and took $9,000 in cash.

Police stated that the victim relied on the false representations when relinquishing the money.

The theft reportedly occurred in late January.

Wood is charged with felony theft by deception and exploitation of the elderly.
