City of Gadsden Announces New Date and Location for Free Dumpster Day

GADSDEN-The City of Gadsden has announced a new date for its upcoming Free Dumpster Day, scheduled for Saturday, March 21, 2026, just in time for spring-cleaning.

The event will take place from 7 a.m. until 12 p.m. at multiple locations throughout the city, with one notable change.

Due to a location adjustment, dumpsters that were previously placed elsewhere will now be available behind Emma Sansom Middle School in the 2200 block of Sansom Avenue. Officials noted that part of the street will be closed, and residents should enter from Meighan Boulevard at the Alabama City Center/North 21st Street.

Additional dumpsters will be located at the East Gadsden Community Center, 921 Wilson Ave., and in the parking lot across from The Amp at 346 South First Street.

City officials remind residents that certain items will not be accepted at dumpster sites. Prohibited materials include liquids, household garbage, tires, batteries of any kind, glass, paint cans and electronics, including old televisions.

Residents may also take items directly to the Etowah County Landfill at 111 Burns Way Drive, which will be open from 7 a.m. to noon for free dumping with a valid Gadsden identification. All metal and construction debris, including shingles, sheetrock and wood, must be taken directly to the landfill. The city reserves the right to refuse any load brought to dumpster locations.

For those looking to recycle rather than dispose of items, Gadsden Recycles, located at 306 Henry Street, will also be open from 7 a.m. to noon. Accepted items include cardboard, newspaper, aluminum and electronics. Glass and plastic will not be accepted at this time.

City officials encourage residents to review the guidelines in advance to help ensure a smooth and efficient event.
