Drivers traveling near the Alabama/Georgia state line should prepare for a temporary road closure as railroad crossing work gets underway in Floyd County, Georgia.
Railroad crossing work in Floyd County, Georgia (just across the state line) is scheduled to begin Tuesday this week. The crossing on Highway 20 West, just west of Barker Road, will be completely closed for approximately 24–48 hours once work begins.
Drivers are advised to follow posted detours during the closure.
Detour Information:
-
If traveling west toward Alabama: Use Barker Road or Huffaker Road.
-
If traveling east into Georgia: Use the new bypass or Woods Road.
Detour signs will be posted on state roads only.
Although the work is taking place in Georgia, the closure will affect Alabama residents who regularly travel Highway 20. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use caution when driving in the area.
